What you need
You can use anything but here is an example of round objects:
Golf Ball
Tennis Ball
Football
Basketball
Fruit (peach, kiwi, apple, orange, melon etc)
Instructions:
Place the balls in a basket or tray and ask your little one to line them up from small to big.
You can also use sticks from the garden, wooden spoons, whatever you can find.
Benefits:
When sorting between big and small objects you are teaching your child basic mathematical concepts. Specifically, they are learning about size, their descriptive names, and how things can be compared. Of course, including the tongs will also help develop the small fine motor muscles in their hands.
Good to know:
Maria Montessori's sensorial work uses "sorting" in specific ways that work to use all of the child's senses, one at a time, in order to refine them. The goal is to train the brain to create more organized thoughts and ways of retrieving information.
