DIY Home Sensory Activity: Pipe Cleaner Play

Updated: Aug 3, 2021

OVERVIEW

Prep time: 1 minute

Difficulty: Easy Peasy

Estimated Cost: 20 AED

Mess level: Zer0

Age: 6 months plus

What you need:

  • Pipe

  • cleaner/spaghetti

  • Strainer

Instructions:

Show your child how to thread the pipe cleaner through the holes

Notes:

Pipe cleaners can be used in lots of different arts and crafts for older ones - you can see my other activity sheets to see how.

Benefits:

This activity is great for developing your child's fine motor skills and coordination. It will also help them perfect the pincer grip, which they will go on to use when learning to write, as they have to grasp the pipe cleaner between their fingers in order to manipulate it through the hole in the strainer.

Top Tip:

  • Add some extra learning by talking about the different colours of the pipe cleaners

  • See if your child is able to tread through and weave.

  • Once the pipe cleaners have been threaded you can then add objects into the bowl and see if your little can reach in and extract.
