More Than
 a Play Brand

The Child Unplugged was created to make meaningful play easier for modern families.

Founded by a teacher, play expert and mum of three, we help parents and caregivers move away from screens and towards more purposeful, connected childhoods — through inspiring play experiences, thoughtfully curated products, practical education and expert support.

Because when we understand play, we can give children more of what they truly need.

Why The Child Unplugged Exists

SCREENS ARE EVERYWHERE

and finding the balance isn’t always easy.

PARENTS ARE BUSIER

with less time to plan and prepare activities.

CHILDREN HAVE MORE TOYS

yet often don’t know how to truly engage with them.

PLAY CAN FEEL OVERWHELMING

knowing what to do, what to buy and where to start.

MEANINGFUL PLAY MATTERS

for connection, curiosity, confidence and development.

WE MAKE PLAY EASIER

with the ideas, tools, experiences and support you need.

Our Journey

The Child Unplugged wasn’t born from a business plan. It grew alongside my own journey as a mum.

After having my twins in Dubai, I faced the reality so many mothers did at the time — just 45 days of maternity leave. I made the difficult decision to leave a career I loved in events and luxury marketing and stay home with my girls.

Before long, I found myself looking for a Montessori-style bed that I simply couldn’t find locally. So I created one. That small idea became Mums & Munchkins, growing from Montessori-inspired furniture into children’s furniture, play equipment and toys.

Then COVID changed everything.

One day, I created a simple play tray in my garden and shared it on Instagram. The response was incredible. Parents wanted to know what I’d used, how I’d created it and whether I could create experiences like it for their children. That was my lightbulb moment.

Play sessions followed. Then birthday parties. Over time came private experiences, tray rentals, monthly play subscriptions, one-to-one play, nanny training and corporate family experiences.

And now, almost a decade after that first business began, everything I’ve learned, created and collected along the way is coming together through The Child Unplugged — including a growing digital library filled with the activities, ideas and resources I’ve developed over the years.

And the story isn’t finished. The Child Unplugged continues to grow and evolve, just as my own children — and the families who have grown with us — do.

Meet Hannah. Teacher.
Mum of 3. Founder of The Child Unplugged.

With a background in education, marketing and events, Hannah created The Child Unplugged from a belief that play should be at the heart of childhood — but that the adults supporting children often need inspiration and practical support too.

What started as a passion for creating engaging play experiences has grown into a complete world of play, supporting families, caregivers, educators, nurseries and brands.

Every experience, resource and service is created with one goal in mind: To help more children experience the childhood-changing power of play.

My Background

My journey brings together education, play, business and motherhood.

Alongside my qualified teacher status, over the years I have continued to build my knowledge through training and courses in Montessori approaches, baby massage, forest learning, therapeutic play and sensory play - all of which influence how I create experiences for children today.

I also bring 10 years of hands-on experience building and evolving The Child Unplugged, working directly with children and families across play sessions, events, parties, one-to-one support and training.

And perhaps some of my most valuable experience comes from being a mum of three myself. It means I understand both sides — the educational value of play and the realities of making it work within busy family life.

For me, it’s always been about combining what I know as an educator with what I’ve learned as a mum.

What We Believe

A Personalised Play Plan

To explore without an expected outcome. To experiment, imagine, create, make mistakes and try again.

The grown-ups matter

too.

Parents, nannies, caregivers and educators all shape a child's experiences. When we empower the adults, we create better opportunities for children.

Play doesn't need to be complicated.

Some of the most powerful play experiences come from simple materials, thoughtful environments and the freedom to explore.

We're not about creating screen-free perfection. We're about creating more opportunities for real-world play, connection and discovery.

Childhood deserves more than screens.

Parents shouldn't have to know everything.

We're here to provide the ideas, inspiration and practical support that make meaningful play easier to bring into everyday life.

Children need space to follow their curiosity.

The best play is often child-led. When children are given the freedom to make their own choices, they build independence, confidence and a lifelong love of learning.

What Makes Us Different?

We don't just sell play. We understand it.

Everything we create is shaped by an understanding of how children play, learn, explore and develop.

We combine education with experience, products with purpose, and inspiration with practical support — helping you move beyond simply buying more toys to creating richer opportunities for play.

From the products in your home to the people caring for your child, we look at the bigger picture.

Because supporting better play isn't about one activity.

It's about creating a childhood filled with more opportunities to explore, connect, create and discover.

INSPIRING PLAY

Fresh ideas that spark curiosity, creativity and connection.

PLAY MADE EASY Simple, achievable ways to bring more play into everyday life.

UNDERSTANDING THE WHY

Helping you understand the purpose and power behind play.

NEW EXPERIENCES Giving children opportunities to explore beyond their everyday environment.

THE RIGHT SUPPORT Giving you the tools, ideas and inspiration to make meaningful play happen.

CONFIDENT GROWN-UPS

Empowering parents, caregivers and educators to better support children through play.
