DIY Home Sensory Activity: Edible Mud

Updated: Aug 24, 2021

OVERVIEW

Prep time: 2 minutes

Difficulty: Medium

Estimated Cost: 20 AED

Mess level: High

Age: 2 plus

What you need:

  • Pudding (I used three boxes to fill this tub)

  • Oreos

  • Gummy worms

  • Storage tub

  • Various other toys – mini construction vehicles and small pets are what we used

Instructions:

First, mix up the pudding and left it to set.

Then, crumble up Oreo dirt.

Hide some worms in the “mud”

Add construction trucks / animals to give it an “on the farm” feel and let them dive in.

Benefits:

Sensory activities are so great for toddlers!

It allows them to learn and create in a safe, stimulating play environment.

Toddlers learn so much by playing with their surroundings – especially when it’s messy play (OK that last part is just my opinion).

And what is more than fun than a giant bowl of mud and dirt that they can play with, lick off and eat!!!

Ways to adapt:

There are so many other ideas for this “muddy” play:

  • Use it in a fun mud kitchen set up

  • Hide alphabet letters in the mud

  • Scoop and pour the mud using cups and funnels
