DIY Home Sensory Activity: Leaf Printing

Updated: Aug 3, 2021

OVERVIEW

Prep time: 2 minutes

Difficulty: Easy Peasy

Estimated Cost: 0 AED

Mess level: Messy

Age: 2 plus

What you need:

  • Paper

  • Leaves

  • Paint

  • Paintbrushes

Instructions:

Choose a variety of leaves with different shapes from the park or garden.

Paint the leaves with a large paintbrush and then print them onto a white paper.

Let your child decide how many leaves to use, what colours to use, and how to print them.

Benefits:

An open-ended art activity like this provides lots of fun and learning for younger children.

Picking the leaves uses the child's whole body and gets them active and exploring outside.

They will learn about leaf shapes and colours. You can make observations about colour blending etc

A lovely way to introduce your child to nature and talk about trees and where leaves come from.

It takes a lot of coordination to hold the leaves and carefully turn them over to print them so this will fine-tune fine motor skills and improve concentration.

Ways to adapt:

Draw on the paper a tree trunk and branches so the children print the leaves on the branches to create a tree.

Paint over and around the leave and then peal off.

Paint a rainbow on the leave and then print.
