Notes:

Even if your kiddos aren’t the crafty type, every kid loves to paint with salt and watercolor or food coloring. Combine science and art with this easy absorption process.

Benefits:

A terrific art technique for toddlers and preschoolers to learn letter and name recognition while getting creative, but it can be used as a simple science activity as well. They will improve their fine motor control by squirting little drops of liquid watercolor onto the salt/glue image. The activity is jam-packed with teaching and learning opportunities: Science ie absorption, art ie colour recognition and colour blending, co-ordination ie pouring salt, shaking tray, concentration ie applying colour to a specific area on the paper and finally Literacy through letter recognition and formation, name recognition.

Top Tip:

Writing a child’s name is a great way for them to learn about letters but you can create anything.
